What are Open Toe Shoes?

Open-toe shoes are a beloved style of footwear that have been around for centuries. From sandals to pumps, open-toe shoes come in a variety of styles and designs, and they offer a unique blend of comfort, style, and versatility. The open-toe design allows for more breathability and air circulation around the foot, making them a popular choice for warm weather and summer outfits.

One of the biggest benefits of open-toe shoes is their versatility. They can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion and are suitable for a variety of settings. For a casual day out, open-toe sandals are the perfect choice, while open-toe heels can be worn to dress up a formal outfit. They also come in a variety of materials, from leather to suede and even canvas, giving you the freedom to choose the perfect shoe for your outfit.

Types of Open Toe Shoes & Finding the Best Fit

There are so many options for open toe shoes out there, we’re breaking down our favorites!

Open-toe shoes come in all sorts of shapes, colors, and sizes, as well as a wide range of materials that can be used to make them. Here are just a few of them:

  • Peep-toe shoes
These are shoes designed specifically for women. These include pumps, booties, sling backs, or any other dress shoes. Peep-toes will usually have an opening right at the toe-box which exposes the toes.

  • Sandals
These are an open type of footwear that consists of a sole which is held to the wearer’s foot through straps that go around the ankle and over the instep. Because sandals also have a heel, people will often confuse sandals with other footwear. However, what makes sandals distinct is that it leaves most of the foot exposed.

  • Slides
This is an open-toed and backless shoe and is an open-toed mule. They can be flat-heeled, high-heeled, and can cover the whole foot or may have only two narrow straps.

Open Toe Shoe Care Tips

Follow these simple tips to keep your open toe shoes looking their best for years to come.

Open-toe shoes require care that’s different from regular shoes because they’re usually made from other kinds of materials. If you’re looking to collect a few open-toe shoes, here are a few things you need to know when it comes to their needs:

1. Always clean the insole: If you notice marks on the insole of your sandals, these could look dirty and worn out. They may look like permanent footprints, but these can be cleaned. Get a toothbrush and some upholstery cleaning spray to scrub the area. Once it looks better, rub the shoe with a soft cloth.

2. Get rid of odors: Open-toe shoes are typically worn during the summer months, which tends to make our feet sweat. If you encounter problems with odor, you can use tea tree oil to swab the inside of your shoes and leave it overnight. This has antibacterial properties which can eliminate odors.

3. Get protection spray: With a waterproof protective spray, your open-toes shoes can stay scuff-free longer even when exposed to dirt and rain. Moreover, a protective spray is useful in particular for both leather and suede, which can protect their delicate surfaces. By using a protection spray, your shoes will retain their durability and color while extending their lifespan.

FAQs

  • Are open toe shoes business casual?

If you work at a formal corporate office, open-toe shoes will be questionable. However, they could be more acceptable in a business-casual office and are commonly seen within a creative office environment. Wearing open-toe shoes in construction is not acceptable but rubber flip flops are generally acceptable in a casual setting.

  • How do I know which shoes to buy? Which is best for me?

The best shoe for you will depend on your unique foot type and the style you’re looking for.

The best shoes for men and women alike offer adequate arch support and cushion. Whether you’re looking for bright blue shoes, dark blue shoes, or white shoes with blue accents, KURUs line of pain-relieving footwear help alleviate foot pain symptoms for all-day comfort.

  • I just received a pair of your shoes and my feet are sore/hurt after wearing them. Why is that?

Some customers experience tenderness when they first start wearing a new pair of KURUs. That’s ok! Your body may need time to adjust to the new levels of anatomical support you experience with our patented KURUSOLE technology. Our shoes are also designed to mold to your unique foot shape, which takes a bit of a break-in period.

To help mitigate this, we suggest you follow our break-in procedure, including wearing your KURUs for a couple hours per day around the house in the first couple of weeks as they break in and form to your foot.

  • How is the arch support of KURU shoes?

KURU shoes deliver excellent arch support without the need for thick inserts or expensive, custom orthotics.

Superior arch support starts with our patented KURUSOLE technology, which delivers natural cushioning and dynamically hugs your heel with every step. Every foot is unique, and our ULTIMATE INSOLES adapt to fit your needs by using your own body heat to custom-mold to the shape of your feet over time.

The corrective nature of our superior arch support is designed to neutralize your weight distribution and place your foot in the best anatomical position. This support can take some getting used to. We suggest slowly breaking in your new shoes over the course of 2–3 weeks.

  • Can you wear open toe shoes on winter?

There’s no rule saying that you can’t do this but it’s probably not a good idea to wear open-toe shoes in the snow. However, you can certainly wear a pair of snow boots while you’re traveling outside, then switch over to your favorite open-toe shoes when you reach your destination.

Three Layers of Support

At KURU, we pride ourselves on our unique approach to shoe design. We believe that shoes should be shaped to fit the natural contours of your feet, which is why we create every pair in three distinct support layers, not just an insole.

Our revolutionary ergonomic design starts with a curved footbed and adds unparalleled triple-layer support that includes shock-absorbing KURUCLOUD, heel-cupping KURUSOLE, and arch-supporting ULTIMATE INSOLES. The result? Shoes that are so comfortable you’ll stop thinking about your feet.

    KURUSOLE

Our patented KURUSOLE plate can reduce foot pain, redirect stress, and encourage a healthy gait. It also features a unique design that cups the heel and allows for dynamic flexion with each step, where it provides superior support that helps protect and preserve the heel’s fat pad. As a result, it guides your body to a more natural alignment, which guarantees personalized comfort that can’t be replicated.

Kala women’s sandal. I currently have 6 pairs of this style and these did not disappoint. I have suffered in the past with plantar fasciitis & this is a sandal that prevents this from reoccurring. They are perfect for my Florida life style. Thanks KURU!!!

Great sandals! This is my second pair of these and the first ones lasted about 4 years before wearing out. The new pair are even more comfortable than I remembered.

Durable and great support. This is my second pair. The first was stolen out of my golf cart. I had those for almost three years and wore them daily. Great sandal and super durable. I’m 6’5″, 280 lbs so most other sandals don’t last long.

Comfort and style. Yes. We can have it all. I love the new brown color and the brown sole. It doesn’t show the dirt. And it is wonderful to have some new sandals with that great arch. I haven’t taken them off. Another great winner.
